Why I now have given up eve: online.

Yes, this is the article explaining why I have given up eve: online.

Because the game is fantastic, no doubt about that. It is the only game which is 100% controlled by the players, and while that is a good thing ,there should be certain limits to this control. The limits were very well defined until recent times, and everything seemed to work fine. For those of you who haven't played the game, I make it simple. The sectores 0.5 and above, were controlled by police, and 0.4 and below players could engage in pvp.

That means that eve: online had a place for carebears, (the non professionals), who just wanted to play the game at their own pace. And a place for the hardcore players that lived for pvp.

This has however changed, and is the main reason why I quit the game. I am one of the carebears. Yes, I do love pvp for  a kick or two. But I don't want to do pvp 24/7.

But the creators of eve, (ccp) made it so players could steal resources from players in 0.5, and above. Yes. A big change, because when these players discovered the thieves they returned fire, thereby enebling pvp.

Now you might thing that this is not a big deal. But in eve, pvp IS a big deal. In world of warcraft, you can go /pvp (enable pvp) and attack a player, or be attacked, die, and not lose a thing, except maybe the lost time it takes to run to a courpse. If the enemy player waited for you, you could just wait 5 mins for the pvp timer to run out (this is usually done by going to the toilet, having a smoke, getting a drink from the fridge. jada jada jada.)

But in eve, you lose everything you had at the time. It would be the same as if you lost all the equipment on a character on WoW. the game would change dramatically.

So this is why I quit. Not because of the changed game mechanic, but because the community has become very hateful. There is not much love anymore in the game. The only place you can find it, is in the help channel, and that too has become hugely changed. Not many people want to help because they have to fend for themselves.

I don't want to play a game where everybody hates everybody, where corps hate corps, and you know. Yes, you might think I am just a noob, but I've been with the game since 2004, so I've seen the good, the bad, and the now really ugly.

I want no part of it anymore.

The real experience is where players communicate about how great the game is, and what they want to do to progress. I used to talk about eve this way, but that was a long time ago.

The hate. The hate. I could never understand why ccp would make the option to ruin a players career, in carebear territory when all this player wants to do is just earn his money, do some mining,

maybe talk to a few friends, and go to bed. Not be afraid to undock out of station (now the only safe place in the game, forget 0.5 and up.)

Not how to have to avoid danger, risk losing assets, and discussing how they could have done better stuff with their lives, than playing a game where they lost everything in one single jump.

It is sad that it had to end this way, but now, this is the end.

Thank you all for the great gametime I had with you ingame, you know who you are.

Take care,
